- Fake Irish: English actress Anna Friel's character is the Irish pirate Captain Bonny. Anna is of Irish descent but she sadly couldn't channel her ancestry into a convincing accent.
- Playing Against Type: Charles Dance playing a perfectly nice guy for a change.
- Prop Recycling: Captain Hook's ship is the Neptune, the 17th-century Spanish galleon replica built for Roman Polański's Pirates in 1986.
- Role Reprise: Not only did Bob Hoskins once again play Smee 20 years after Hook, but the costume he wears is almost identical to the one he wore in the film, minus the hat.
