- God-Created Canon Foreigner: Masashi Kishimoto designed Sakura's parents, Mebuki and Kizashi, specifically for this film. However, like all of the previous films in the franchise, this film is non-canon. Also, their subsequent appearances have only been in the Shippuden anime filler. In this 2014 Fuji TV Kobayashi interview, Kishimoto reveals that Sakura's unpopularity and his own antipathy towards her are the reasons why her parents are not canon.
- God Never Said That: Kishimoto's involvement with the production of this non-canon movie, which is heavily loaded with Naruto/Sakura Ship Teasing, made a lot of their shipping fans to claim that the author was giving an explicit endorsement of the pairing and that it was meant to be the official one. In reality, Kishimoto was only involved with the characters' designs and story draftnote , while the actual script of the movie was done by Yuka Miyata, who was infamous for her Naruto/Sakura-teasing scene additions to the anime filler that didn't exist in the manga (although she stopped doing this and even seems to have left the anime after the manga ended and the anime continued to drag on, for obvious reasons).
- The Other Darrin: In English, Kakuzu's one line is provided by Neil Kaplan (Madara) instead of Fred Tatasciore. Tatasciore was still credited as his character despite the change.
- Recycled Script: The movie is infamously guilty of blatantly recycling scenes from several chapters:
- A scene late in the movie rehashes a scene from Chapter 437 (Hinata's sincere Anguished Declaration of Love), word-for-word, except with Sakura rather than Hinata.
- The movie recycles scenes from Kushina's flashback from Chapters 500-504.
- Trolling Creator: Promotional material put focus on teasing Naruto/Hinata and Sasuke/Sakura, but the movie itself teases Naruto/Sakura. Ironically, the first two would later become Official Couples, while the one this non-canon movie focuses on has the next movie (which is the first Canon movie of the franchise) sinking it—never mind that it already sunk spectacularly in Chapter 469—and even has Sakura (and the rest of the Konoha 11) being a Cool Big Sis and the biggest Shipper on Deck for Naruto/Hinata.
