Trivia / N.W.A

Go To

  • Banned in China: Niggaz4Life was the subject of a criminal obscenity prosecution against the group's UK record company, which ended in an acquittal by magistrates.
  • One-Hit Wonder: The group only had one top 40 hit… in 2015, long after they broke up, when "Straight Outta Compton" made it to #38. How? A combination of several new rules added to the Billboard Hot 100 (streaming and YouTube plays being integrated into the Hot 100 and older songs are now allowed to chart as long as they make it above #50) and a resurgence of interest in the band due to to the popularity of the biopic Straight Outta Compton. Because of the "stars aligning" nature of this entry, and because the band is no longer active, it's unlikely they'll ever have another top 40 hit.
  • The Pete Best:
    • Arabian Prince was one of the founding members of the group, but he left after contributing to one track on Straight Outta Compton.
    • The title also fits Latino rapper Krazy Dee (better known as the guy who gets mad at the titular character in "Dope Man"), who was also a founding member of N.W.A.
  • Short-Lived, Big Impact: Together for barely 5 years, and released only 2 full albums, but are regarded as a seminal act in the rap genre.
  • Similarly Named Works: Their song "Appetite for Destruction" shares its title with the debut album by Guns N' Roses, as well as an episode of The Loud House.
