• Fake Nationality: Confederate soldier Pencroft is played by the English Percy Herbert, which leads to not a few incidents of Ooh, Me Accent's Slipping.
• What Could Have Been: Instead of a giant ammonite, the undersea creature was going to be either a giant octopus, clam or oyster. All three were rejected on the grounds of being too cliche.
