Trivia / My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic S9 E22 "Growing Up is Hard to Do"

Go To

  • Ascended Fanon: Ever since Scootaloo first tried and failed to fly, a fair number of fans had been holding her up as a role model for people with disabilities despite Lauren Faust stating that she "hadn't figured it out yet". In this episode, her adult body is shown with foal-size wings, with one of the staff confirming that it was indeed intended to indicate an actual disability (slightly downplayed in that their post included the line "But fans are welcome to interpret things how they like").
  • Content Leak: The Dutch version of this episode was released in mid-August accidentally by a Netherlands station (along with the remaining episodes of the season), which was quickly taken down. The English dub was eventually leaked on September 4.
  • Diagnosis of God: In regards to Scootaloo still having small wings as an adult despite Bulk Biceps flying just fine with even smaller wings, Jim Miller mentioned how the intent is that Scootaloo is disabled, but fans can interpret it as they want.
  • God Does Not Own This World: Several years before this episode aired, Lauren Faust (while she was still serving as showrunner) responded to a fan's question about Scootaloo's flight situation claiming she "hadn't figured it out yet" (implying that there was nothing medically wrong with her wings). Here, her adult body is shown with foal-size wings, with one of the staff confirming that it was indeed intended to indicate an actual disability.
  • Meta Casting: Since the Cutie Mark Crusaders' voice actresses have grown up to adulthood during the nine years of the series, the Crusaders magically growing up makes this the first episode in several seasons where they can use their natural voice pitch to voice the Crusaders.
  • Short Run in Peru: The rest of this season, including this episode, aired early in Ukraine on September 21, 2019 on PLUSPLUS. The episode was also released on the same day to nc+ GO's on demand service in Poland.
  • What Could Have Been: Jim Miller mentioned how this episode was originally conceived at the tail end of season 5.
