- Star-Derailing Role: This film was regarded as being the finishing blow for Johnny Depp’s career as an A-list leading man.
- Stillborn Franchise: The film was based on the first Mortdecai story "Don't Point That Thing at Me", and the studio hoped to follow it up with adaptations of the other four stories. However, the film itself was a critical flop and a Box Office Bomb, barely making back half of its $60 million budget.
