• God-Created Canon Foreigner: The Shadows were created by Tove Jansson herself, but never showed up in any of the books or anywhere but the comic strip — until the 2014 movie Moomins on the Riviera which adapts one of the early comic strip storylines.
• Reality Subtext: The last newspaper comic arc to be written and drawn by Tove Jansson alone, "The Golden Tail", has Moomintroll becoming a celebrity after his tail tuft turns to pure gold. It's pretty obvious that the problems he encounters with press and public attention and commercialisation are inspired by Jansson's own discomfort with the fame that the Moomins brought her.
