- Chart Displacement: She has had three songs that charted higher than "Get Ur Freak On", which peaked at #7. "Work It", her highest charting song, still gets major airplay on urban stations, but "Hot Boyz" and "Lose Control", the other two, are largely obscure today.
- Development Hell: Her seventh studio album (then-named Block Party) was temporarily put on indefinite hold due to her bout with Graves' disease (which literally hindered her writing ability).
- In Memoriam: The video for "Work It" features two cars with graffiti tributes to the then-recently departed Aaliyah and Lisa "Left Eye" Lopez spray-painted on their hoods.
- Reclusive Artist: At the height of her career, she simply vanished from the spotlight. In an interview, she stated that this was due to her Graves' disease and due to stress from the loss of her friend and collaborator Aaliyah. She later got her condition under control and made a well-received appearance at Super Bowl XLIX; whether that will make her any less reclusive is up in the air.
