Trivia / Mickey Mouse (2013)

Go To

  • Acting for Two: In "Goofy's Grandma", Bill Farmer voiced both Goofy and his grandmother. Justified as Goofy's grandmother is just Goofy in disguise.
  • Actor Allusion: In "New York Weenie", this is the first time that Chris Diamantopoulos, the voice of Mickey for these shorts, has "walked" with Russi Taylor, thus making it the "only walk we've taken that I can remember".
  • Adored by the Network: Perhaps unsurprisingly, considering who is starring in them, Disney absolutely loves these shorts. Besides being one of the few Disney shows to break the 65 episode rule, they're frequently posted and/or played everywhere where Disney gets the chance. They're aired on all the Disney networks as well as frequently posted through their YouTube channel and on Disney+. On top of that, there's an entire theatre dedicated to them in Disney's Hollywood Studios (which has its own unique short titled "Vacation Fun"), as well as a proper dark ride attraction in both Hollywood Studios and Disneyland titled Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway. Clips even played on the giant video billboard atop the Disney Store in Times Square. On top of everything else, its incarnation of Mickey Mouse is used in place of the normal Mickey design on the current Disney Television Animation logo.
  • Celebrity Voice Actor: Danny Trejo as the Piñata leader in "¡Feliz Cumpleaños!"
  • Channel Hop: While the original five seasons aired on Disney Channel and Disney XD, The Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse retool was released on Disney+.
  • Disowned Adaptation: Warren Spector, who is the one who revived Oswald the Lucky Rabbit back in Epic Mickey, has bashed the cameo of him in "Canned", finding it to be pathetic and disrespectful to the character. That said, he does still enjoy the cartoons otherwise, and he would praise his later cameo in "Year of the Dog".
  • Executive Meddling: It's heavily implied by character designer Tara Billinger that this is why Oswald hasn't made many appearances in the show and why they can only get away with minor background gags at most.
  • Milestone Celebration:
    • While it's not celebrated in the short, "Potatoland" aired on Mickey's 85th birthday, and is twice as long as the previous Paul Rudish shorts.
    • "Bronco Busted" was made to celebrate the anniversary of "The Wise Little Hen", the first cartoon to ever feature Donald Duck.
    • "Wish upon a Coin" is made of this for both the cartoon and Snow White, since it's the 40th episode of this series.
    • "¡Feliz Cumpleaños!" was released on the 87th anniversary of Steamboat Willie.
    • While not aired on the exact date, "Nature's Wonderland" arrives 40 years after the closure of the "Mine Train thru Nature's Wonderland" attraction it celebrates.
    • "Year of the Dog" was released on February 10, 2018, which was 6 days before Chinese New Year, which did celebrate the year of the dog.
    • "Surprise!" was released on the 90th anniversary of Steamboat Willie.
    • The Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse premiered on Mickey's 92nd birthday.
    • "Steamboat Silly" is a celebration of both Disney's 100th anniversary and Mickey's 95th anniversary, as the short has the Mickey of 1928 interact with this show's incarnation of Mickey while also including a ton of mythology gags from across Mickey and Disney's history.
  • He Also Did:
  • Kids' Meal Toy: Subway sold a set of four lunch bags containing jigsaw puzzles in 2015.
  • Non-Singing Voice: In "Yodelberg", Mickey and Minnie's yodeling voices are done by uncredited professional yodelers.
  • No Export for You: The 2020 short "Vacation Fun" can only be seen at Walt Disney World.
  • The Other Darrin:
    • While Mickey has been officially voiced by Bret Iwan after Wayne Allwine's death in 2009, here he's voiced by Chris Diamantopoulos, whose performance intentionally hearkens back to Walt Disney's portrayal of Mickey. However, Iwan still voices Mickey in the Where's My Water? crossover game that is otherwise based on this series.
    • Scrooge McDuck was voiced by Alan Young in his first two appearances, but following his death in May 2016, John Kassir inherited the role starting with "Duck the Halls".
    • Russi Taylor’s death meant that her roles needed to be recast. As a result, Kaitlyn Robrock became the new voice of Minnie Mouse starting with the Disney+ retool of the series, continuing from her debut performances as the character on Mickey Mouse Mixed-Up Adventures.
    • Clancy Brown voices The Big Bad Wolf rather than his regular voice actor Jim Cummings.
    • Paul Rudish initially voiced Mortimer in "No" rather than his usual voice actor Maurice LaMarche and he himself was replaced by Jeff Bennett starting with "A Pete Scorned" (though it also doubles as a Role Reprise from Mickey's Once Upon a Christmas).
    • Tress MacNeille voices the Evil Witch from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs instead of her usual voice actor, Susanne Blakeslee.
    • Grey Griffin replaces Barbara Dirickson and Rosalyn Landor as Fairy Godmother from Cinderella and the Blue Fairy from Pinocchio respectively.
    • Chris Diamantopoulos replaces Corey Burton as the Magic Mirror (despite Corey returning to voice Professor von Drake for the series) and Dick van Dyke as Bert.
    • Bill Farmer replaces Jeff Bennett as Lumiere
    • Fred Tatasciore replaces Jim Cummings as Humphrey the Bear
    • The Japanese dub has many replacements for many unforeseen causes:
  • Role Reprise:
    • Bill Farmer as Goofy and Pluto.
    • Tony Anselmo as Donald.
    • Russi Taylor as Minnie, Huey, Dewey, and Louie until her death in 2019. After said death, Kaitlyn Robrock reprises the role of Minnie from the aforementioned Mickey Mouse Mixed-Up Adventures during the Disney+ retool for the show.
    • Tress MacNeille as Daisy and Chip.
    • Corey Burton as Dale and Ludwig Von Drake.
    • Jim Cummings as Pete and Tigger.
    • April Winchell as Clarabelle.
    • Alan Young returned as Scrooge McDuck for his first two appearances until his death in 2016.
    • "A Pete Scorned" onward has Jeff Bennett reprise the role of Mortimer from Mickey's Once Upon a Christmas.
    • Pat Carroll as Ursula for the short Keep on Rollin', which marked her last performance as Ursula when she was alive. The video game Disney Dreamlight Valley marks Carroll's final performance as the character.
    • Joe Ochman as Jiminy Cricket
    • Jeff Bennett as Merlin and J Audubon Woodlore (from the attraction "Grizzly River Run")
  • Science Marches On: The dwarf planet Pluto is depicted as blue in "Space Walkies". Even before the New Horizons fly-by in 2015, it was believed to be reddish. A beige-ish color was confirmed in the fly-by.
  • Swan Song: The third season saw Alan Young reprise his role as Scrooge McDuck for the last time, which was also his final acting role overall, before his death on May 19, 2016.
  • What Could Have Been: According to character designer Tara Billinger, there was going to be an episode in season 1 in the vein of Runaway Brain. Paul Rudish liked the idea, but he felt it was too early to do something like this. The episode was never made.
