  • Completely Different Title: The Japanese title of the album is 無限大の幻覚 (Infinite Illusions).
  • Multi-Disc Work: The LP release is spread across two discs, thanks to it being so long that each track takes up an entire side of vinyl. CD releases, meanwhile, are able to store the album on just one disc.
  • Referenced by...: The voice of the Breen in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine was directly based on the sound of Metal Machine Music, which the show's production team copiously listened to when creating the voice.
  • What Could Have Been: According to Reed, he attempted to persuade RCA Records to release the album under their Classical Music imprint, Red Seal. RCA however shot the idea down, releasing it under their standard popular music arm.
