Trivia / Merlin's Shop of Mystical Wonders

Go To

  • Awesome, Dear Boy: Ernest Borgnine once told a fan that he appeared in this movie because he was friends with Kenneth J. Berton who needed a name actor attached to get the film made. Borgnine admitted that the film itself was "dumb" but didn't mind making it to help a friend (going off the same exchange, Borgnine seemed to consider BASEketball to be his worst movie).
  • The Danza: Nicholas, the little boy who magically hatches a chicken in Merlin's shop in the first segment, was played by Nicholas Noyes.
  • Orphaned Reference: A few due to cuts from "The Devil's Gift":
    • In the original film, the monkey toy possessed Susan to turn the volume up on the TV so Michael wouldn't hear the dog's cries for help from the garage. This does not happen in this movie, but Susan still appears to be in a trance when she sees David rush to the garage after seeing smoke coming out from it on the outside. Also, David was not able to get in the garage in time to save the dog because he initially went to go inside to find his neighbor Pete's timing light, only for Pete to inform him immediately that he had found it before he detected smoke from the garage.
    • David's first meeting with the psychic from "The Devil's Gift" is not in this movie, but audio from that scene informing him to "never let [the demon possessing the toy monkey] know that you're aware of its presence" still plays after he gets back home from meeting her, which was actually the second time in the original film.
    • The MST 3 K episode makes fun of how Borgnine seemingly "forgot to write [the charm the psychic gave David] in". The movie cut the scene from "The Devil's Gift" where David takes a shower and the monkey toy possesses the shower in an attempt to kill him. This causes David to realize that the psychic was on to something when he notices the charm's proximity to him likely saved his life. David then puts it on and keeps it until the scene kept in this movie where he puts it in the drawer, better helping to explain why he survives the tree falling on him towards the end. This is also why David's clothes change between the scene with the aforementioned audio and the scene where he tries to get rid of the monkey without it being aware. Might overlap with Adaptation Induced Plothole.
  • Technology Marches On: With review sites like Yelp and TripAdvisor, it's now common for patrons to threaten to leave bad reviews for local businesses to try to get special treatment.
  • Throw It In!: According to Struan Robertson (who played Michael in the The Devil's Gift) himself, the infamous "Rock N' Roll Martian" bit was originally going to be a slow focus on the monkey as the kids were playing nearby, but Struan was just having fun messing around and went to play with it. The director loved it and left it in like that.
