Trivia / Mercury Rev

  • He Also Did: Jonathan Donahue made guest appearances on two The Chemical Brothers songs (he sang on "Dream On" and played additional guitar on "The Private Psychedelic Reel").
  • Troubled Production:
    • Boces, to the point that the band refuse to play songs from it since it reminds them of the turbulent recording.
    • Deserter's Songs, due to what amounts to a Trauma Conga Line. See You on the Other Side bombed, the band asked to leave their label, the manager, lawyers and original drummer left, Jonathan both broke up with a girlfriend and suffered two nervous breakdowns and the band was on the verge of total collapse. They intended Songs to more or less be a Series Fauxnale which makes the fact that it was a Hitless Hit Album all the more Awesome.
  • What Could Have Been: Famed session musician, Record Producer, and film score composer Jack Nitzsche was a big fan of Deserter's Songs and signed on to produce and orchestrate the next album - he died of cardiac arrest before pre-production started; the album, All Is Dream, was produced by Dave Fridmann with orchestrations by Tony Visconti instead. Given the Baroque Pop style arrangements Nitzsche gave to Neil Young songs like "A Man Needs A Maid", the pairing could have worked well.
