Trivia / Menace II Society

  • Blooper: During the liquor store scene when O-Dog takes the Korean store owner's wife hostage, you can see the film crew in the mirror on the ceiling behind him.
  • Breakthrough Hit: For the Hughes Brothers.
  • Creator Backlash: Allen Hughes says the movie that was made wasn't really the movie he wanted to make. It was 80% there, but the Hughes Brothers didn't think it was hard/edgy enough. They knew they had something when editing was done, but it wasn't what they had hoped for. They blame themselves and also not having enough time to do certain things.
  • Deleted Scene:
    • A scene involving a prison riot was cut from the film because it would have bumped the rating up to an NC-17. It didn't even appear on the director's cut DVD/Blu-Ray, which restored other content that was cut for the same reason.
    • A still photo from production shows the policemen holding guns on the Latino gang with a beaten Caine and Sharif lying nearby. While the cops dump the characters in that spot after beating them and the Latino gang approaches the two, this specific scene is not in the finished film.
  • Executive Meddling: New Line Cinema mandated that a platinum rapper be cast in the film, and so MC Eiht was cast as A-Wax.
  • Harpo Does Something Funny: MC Eiht ad-libbed most of his lines to authenticate the portrayal of gang life in the film.
  • Looping Lines: The Clifton Powell and Ian Davids scene, where Chauncy receives information about a car to steal, had to be dubbed by the actors in post-production, due to air traffic.
  • Missing Trailer Scene: A clip in the theatrical trailer featured Stacy and Ronnie talking to either the police or a paramedic. This takes place presumably after Sharif and Caine are killed in the drive-by at the film's end. Anthony is seen crying with his clothes stained in Caine's blood.
  • Wag the Director: There was a scene that was cut because the actor in it was considered "too gangster" and had no story relating to the film.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Tupac Shakur wanted to play O-Dog, but was originally cast as Sharif. He was fired following a disagreement with the Hughes Brothers, which culminated in him assaulting them. He didn't believe that a Muslim could be a gang-banger.
    • Originally, MC Ren was set to play A-Wax, but later turned down the role when he joined the Nation of Islam in late 1992.
    • Twin girls who would have been Caine's friends were completely cut out from the script. They would rob people and it would have added a few more scenes with Caine in them.
