Trivia / Melty Blood

Go To

  • Approval of God:
    • Masaru Kuba, the game's composer, responded to Kotaku's article about the author only listening to the soundtrack but having never played the game that it was a good thing for the soundtrack to have reached people who don't play the games, and that it could also lead to the same people eventually checking out the games as well.
    • When TYPE-MOON approached French Bread to make another game without having an IP in mind yet, one of the sample characters French Bread staff drew up a concept for was Saber, an admitted fan favorite for the staff. When she was presented to TYPE-MOON, they approved her inclusion as the final member of Type Lumina's launch roster.
  • Author's Saving Throw: The Mash and Neco Arc update for Type Lumina was a patch made with the expressed intent of fixing many of the issues fans had had with the game since it had released including nerfing shields, disabling auto combos, more story content and much, much more.
  • Colbert Bump: If it wasn't for the original Team Sp00ky streams of Act Cadenza in the late 2000s, the series (and, by extension, Type-MOON's content as a whole) would not have been as popular as it became to western audiences.
  • Creator's Favorite: The reason Saber is included as part of the roster is because French Bread are massive fans of her and have been itching for a chance to put her into a fighting game.
  • Denial of Digital Distribution: If you wanted to get your copy of Actress Again Current Code when it first came out, you would've had to buy the Carnival Phantasm Season 3 limited edition set. If you only wanted the game, tough luck. If you live outside of Japan, even tougher luck, because you were expected to shell out over $300 to get it exported.
  • Development Gag: In the Boss Rush, you face what is said to be the regular Akiha in her Half Moon groove as the penultimate opponent, but Shiki's dialogue with her reveals that she is, in fact, the Half Moon Akiha from the original arcade version of Actress Again, who was considered one of the most broken characters in the game at the time. Kohaku and Neco-Arc hang a gigantic lampshade over this;
Kohaku: As a matter of fact, that Akiha-sama there is the strongest of the strong! She's the one who rampaged all across the country back before Actress Again updated to Ver.A... the H-Akiha who placed at the top of the tier lists by a wide margin!
Neco-Arc: Hmm... her cheap j.C cross-up, her super high defense, and her extreme rushdown... you could say that they were cranking out H-Akihas all over town. A true H-hell... or maybe heaven?
  • Doing It for the Art: TYPE-MOON loves how simple and old school Melty Blood looks visually, reminescent from the old days they were a small softhouse who could only do this much; with this the developers are vocal about not ever changing or evolving the game graphically (HD sprites/3D models, more active stages & etc.). Evolution and changes in any installment up to Actress Again Current Code only amount to technical balance to improvements, and character additions.
  • Fan Translation: The original Melty Blood, ReACT and Act Cadenza are fully patched into English, with Actress Again also having a partial patch.
  • The Other Darrin:
  • Sequel Gap: Not counting all the Updated Re-releases, Melty Blood: Type Lumina came out 19 years after the original Melty Blood's release in 2001.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Up until TYPE-MOON created Sion, Riesbyfe was supposedly the main heroine of Melty Blood and would've appeared as Ciel's rival.
    • Sion's appearance in Under Night In-Birth was originally a proof of concept for an HD Melty Blood game before French Bread chose to create a new IP. Further work on this entry was scrapped in favor of tying it into the Tsukihime remake.
    • Before working on Type Lumina, French-Bread was proposing couple of different ideas for Type-Moon, including a Fate Series fighting game. When the release on Tsukihime remake started to become clear, French-Bread instead started working on a new Melty Blood game. A relic of this is the inclusion of Saber into the game's roster, as she was one of sample characters created as a proof of concept.
    • Type Lumina's Boss Rush mode was meant to be about Noel, showing a hypothetical "Noel route" before she realizes that something is off about the whole thing. Ultimately Nasu decided that introducing Miyako was more important so it ended up being about her. Noel would eventually get her own Boss Rush mode with the 1.3.0 update, however.
