Trivia / Mega Man Powered Up

• Acclaimed Flop: The remake got excellent critical reception, but flopped in sales, badly enough to can any further remake plans.
• Refitted for Sequel: Though it wasn't publically known until a design document was released in 2023, Oil Man had actually been designed as a potential boss for the original Mega Man before the boss roster was reduced to six, and his weapon even acted as a proto-Oil Slider (albeit one that made enemies slip).
• What Could Have Been:
  • Keiji Inafune was interested in remaking the entire Classic series (particularly Mega Man 2), as he planned to do with the Mega Man X series with Mega Man: Maverick Hunter X. As with that game, though, Powered Up's poor sales put the kibosh on those plans.
  • Bond Man, a seventh Robot Master designed and cut from the original Mega Man, was initially considered to be revived as one of the game's two new Robot Masters. However, Inafune noted his cult status, and left him out to avoid damaging it.
• Word of Dante: The Archie comics (which has no involvement from Capcom themselves beyond licensing) gives the serial numbers to Time Man and Oil Man as DLN.00A and DLN.00B respectively. Despite the aforementioned lack of direct involvement from Capcom, these serial numbers are generally accepted to be "official" by the larger Mega Man fandom (including this game's main page on this very wiki).
