- Approval of God: Jojo Moyes, author of the original book, loved the film. (To be fair, she also wrote the screenplay.)
- Awesome, Dear Boy: Emilia Clarke was sent the book, as the screenplay was still being written. She read three pages and agreed instantly.
- Corpsing: Emilia Clarke called it the highlight of her career when she got to make Charles Dance corpse, though she didn't say how.
- The Danza: A last name example—Emilia Clarke as Louisa Clarke.
- Dyeing for Your Art: Matthew Lewis had his legs waxed to play Patrick, at the insistence of Emilia Clarke.
- Playing Against Type:
- Emilia Clarke was famous for playing a Proud Warrior Race Girl on Game of Thrones, and her only other high profile role was Sarah Connor in Terminator Genisys. Here she's playing a Cute Clumsy Girl with a ghastly fashion sense. She said that the role was extremely close to her real personality.
- Charles Dance only has a small role, but he normally pops up as imposing or intimidating authority figures. In this it's his wife who's the intimidating one, while he's the nicer of the two.
- Matthew Lewis was best known as the runty nerd Neville Longbottom. He tries his hand at playing a Jerk Jock who's also the Romantic False Lead.
- Jenna Coleman plays a modern-day character for the only the fourth time in her career, as since leaving the teen TV drama Waterloo Road in 2010, she had played only "period" (pre-1960s) characters in TV and film with the exception of her Doctor Who character, Clara.
- Separated-at-Birth Casting: Emilia Clarke and Jenna Coleman look strongly enough alike that they really could be sisters.
