• Creator's Favorite Episode:
  • Takashi Kimura considered Matango to be the finest screenplay he wrote. So much so that every script he wrote after this was under the pesudonym Kaoru Mabuchi due to lack of enthusiasm.
  • Actress Kumi Mizuno (Mami Sekiguchi) has cited this her favorite film she starred in.
• Hey, It's That Sound!: The deep laughter of the eponymous mushroom-people are better known to most as the Evil Laugh of Ultraman's most famous foe, the insectoid Alien Baltan, although this film features the first use of the iconic sound effect.
• Magnum Opus Dissonance: Ultimately downplayed as those who have seen the film agree with Ishiro Honda on this being his greatest work, but it's often overshadowed in the public consciousness by another of his creations- Godzilla (1954).

• What Could Have Been: Stephen Soderbergh came close to remaking the film, but disagreements with Toho put the kibosh on the project.
• Word of Dante/Ascended Fanon: One of the main actors went with the fan theory that some of the mushrooms released their spores by air thus that is why his character is infected despite never consuming the mushrooms.
