Trivia / Marvel 1602

Go To

  • Creator Breakdown: The book was written in the aftermath of the September 11th attacks. Neil Gaiman was distraught by the event and was in the middle of brainstorming ideas for stories Marvel commissioned him to write. Wanting to return to simpler times when magic was prominent, Gaiman came up with 1602.
  • Money, Dear Boy: Gaiman wrote the first 1602 book as part of an agreement with Marvel to fund his then-ongoing lawsuit with Todd Mc Farlane over the rights to the Miracleman books and the Angela character from Spawn, among other creator-rights issues.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Rojhaz was originally going to be black-haired until Andy Kubert realized who he was supposed to be and changed accordingly.
    • Gaiman had wanted to use Iron Man in the story, but couldn't figure out a way to do steam-powered armour without cooking the person inside. He also decided the cast was already too big to include Ant-Man and The Wasp, so he used them in Eternals (2006) instead.
  • Word of God: Many fans believed that Virginia Dare was an in-universe equivalent of Snowbird, considering their similarities in powers and appearance, but Gaiman stated that is not the case.
