Hostility on the Set: More a case of "hostility in the animation studio", Chuck Jones and co-writer Carl Kohler got into heated arguments concerning the ending of the short. Kohler wanted the Martian to find happiness on Earth among a community of beatniks in Greenwich Village who would accept him, but Jones was insistent that the cartoon conclude with the Martian returning to his own planet. Jones ultimately got his wish.

The first Chuck Jones cartoon scored by Bill Lava. The other three cartoons before this were directed by Friz Freleng (The Jet Cage, Shishkabugs) and Robert McKimson (Good Noose).
