- Follow the Leader: The film was created primarily to capitalize on the success of Witchfinder General.
- Playing Against Type:
- While Herbert Lom has played a number of villains, he's most known for the comically villainous Charles Dreyfus from the Pink Panther film series. This is by far the nastiest person Lom has ever played, and the character has zero redeeming qualities. Audiences familiar with his more well-known roles or who are waiting for the character to soften are going to be in for a major shock. It's not very different than the shock audiences got from Vincent Price in Witchfinder General.
- Also, Udo Kier, who is mostly known for sinister types ends up playing a nominal hero, who ends up quite unlike the roles he's most known for, after his character has a Heel–Face Turn.
- What Could Have Been: Anton Diffring was considered for the role of the Albino prior to Reggie Nalder being cast.
