  • Defictionalization: Illiers renamed itself Illiers-Combray in 1971 to celebrate Proust's centenary.
  • Referenced by...: As one of the most famous and influential French novelists of the early 20th century, he has received numerous references, tributes, and parodies in popular culture, including:
    • Samuel Beckett wrote a book-length essay entitled simply "Proust", though That Other Wiki characterises it as "more concerned with Beckett's influences and preoccupations than with its ostensible subject". Beckett himself later belittled it as being written in "cheap flashy philosophical jargon".
    • Monty Python parodied the length of his works with the "Summarise Proust Competition" in Monty Python's Flying Circus.
    • Ved Buens Ende named one of their songs "Remembrance of Things Past" after his most famous work.
