• Box Office Bomb: Budget, $14 million. Box office, $$11,897,978.
• …But I Play One on TV: Harry Hamlin, who played a gay man in this film, once remarked on the number of times he was asked whether he was himself gay because of the film, pointing out how no one ever asks an actor playing a murderer if they are a murderer in real life.
• Creator Killer: Harry Hamlin saw his film career shut down cold after he played a gay man in this film. He never made a studio film again. He concluded that the movie was too far ahead of its time, though he says he still gets random people thanking him for it. Fortunately, he managed to break into TV starting with a stint on L.A. Law, so it wasn't totally the end for him.
• What Could Have Been:
  • The filmmakers originally wanted Michael Douglas to play Zack Elliot, to the point where he was sent a revision after he passed on it. Tom Berenger was offered the role, but he was unavailable. Harrison Ford, Richard Gere and William Hurt were also considered.
  • Goldie Hawn turned down the role of Claire, fearing that too much of the dramatic subject matter would have to be altered to fit her comic talents and fan base.
