  • Actor-Inspired Element: Sammy Farha, who cameos as himself in the film, is seen sporting an unlit cigarette in his mouth, something Farha often does in real life as he believes it to be lucky. If he loses a pot with the cigarette, he gets rid of it and replaces it.
  • Cast the Expert: Matt Savage, a real-life tournament director, and who called the final table of the real WSOP final in 2003, plays the tournament director in the film.
    • Also, Jason Lester finished in fourth place, and served as a technical advisor for the tournament sequence while also cameoing in the film.
    • Doyle Brunson was also a technical advisor and cameos in the film.
    • Lester, Dan Harrington, and Sammy Farha were the fourth, third, and second place finishers at the real life WSOP final table in 2003, and all cameo as themselves.
  • Dueling Works: Both this film, released in 2007, and Deal, released in 2008, follow a younger and older pro playing in a major poker tournament. In this film, it's the 2003 World Series of Poker, and in "Deal, it's the 2006 World Poker Tour Championship. Additionally Both films feature the younger player folding the unseen winning hand to allow the older player to win the pot and bust them. In this film, the younger player finishes third and the older player second. In "Deal," the younger player is runner up and the older player wins the title.
  • The Shelf of Movie Languishment: The film was shot in 2005 and not released until 2007, where it flopped at the box office.
