- Executive Meddling: The NWA Board of directors refused to let Thesz wrestle Verne Gagne anymore due to a desire to keep the World Heavyweight Title belt off of Gagne. He left and formed the American Wrestling Association. The decision to have Thesz win the belt back from Buddy Rogers lead to the formation of the World Wide Wrestling Federation.
- Fountain of Expies: Every NWA World Champion followed his lead during the NWA's glory years, not just the Heavyweights. Rikidozan told his students to pattern themselves after Thesz.
- Hostility on the Set: Thesz always made sure to make the popular baby face Antonino Rocca look good on camera. However, Thesz was not a fan of Rocca's wrestling style and would make Rocca work extra hard to pull off his more theatrical spots in matches.
