• What Could Have Been:
  • The original idea was to have Locke as a normal, sad-sack guy using the island to remake himself. It was in the last writing of the script that the idea Locke had been paralyzed before the crash was put in which changed the entire character.
  • The DVD Commentary for the episode mentions that there was a Deleted Scene in which Locke actually did confront Randy over his mistreatment of him. This was removed to make Locke seem more pathetic, as in the final cut, he still has a conversation with Helen where he celebrates telling off Randy, but the audience is left with the impression that he is referring to the throwaway "Don't tell me what I can't do" that he says over his shoulder after Randy has already left the room.
