  • Bad Export for You: The first attempt to bring the manga to the United States was by First Comics and was championed (and had covers drawn by) famed creator Frank Miller. While the quality of the series was good, it unfortunately ended in 1991 when the publisher closed, adapting only roughly a third of the series. It wouldn't be until Dark Horse Comics restarted publishing the series in manga-style volumes in 2000 before Western fans who weren't literate in Japanese could see the end of the series.
  • Missing Episode: The second episode of the television series was removed from various collections and not rebroadcast. It's not exactly clear why, but the reigning theory is that since the episode deals with the gomune (an 'untouchable caste' in ancient Japan which would later become the burakumin), it may have been removed for political reasons.
