• Career Resurrection: Jackie Earle Haley, after being dismissed as a Former Child Star of the 70's (through The Bad News Bears), had virtually vanished from Hollywood before landing a role in this film. He earned raves from critics and an Academy Award nomination for his performance in 2006, more than three decades since he started his acting career. Three years later, his performance in Watchmen affirmed his return.
• Fake American: Kate Winslet as Sarah.
• What Could Have Been:
  • Vera Farmiga was the original choice for the role of Sarah. She would later go on to play opposite Patrick Wilson, who played Brad in this film, as Ed and Lorraine Warren in The Conjuring and its sequels.
  • Michael Fassbender and Idris Elba were both considered for the role of Brad.
