• Character Outlives Actor: Had the series continued, Samantha Reed Smith's Elizabeth would have lived on off-screen in Paris.
• Creator Backlash: The producers regretted continuing production after Samantha Reed Smith died and asked ABC to cancel the series with three episodes left unaired.
• Died During Production: Older daughter Elizabeth was played by child activist Samantha Reed Smith, who proved to be a natural despite not having acted much before. Sadly, Smith died along with her father in a plane crash after only four episodes had been completed. The show was never able to recover (especially given it was up against The Golden Girls, which proved to be a Sleeper Hit), and it was quietly ended when 1986 rolled around.
