Trivia / Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver

• Dummied Out: So, so much. A quick guide here. Essentially Soul Reaver and Soul Reaver 2 were going to be one game, but there wasn't enough time, money or data for that so they split it into two, hence Soul Reaver's cliffhanger ending and a lot of the cut elements ended up being Refitted for Sequel, appearing instead in Soul Reaver 2 and Defiance.
• Real Song Theme Tune: The main theme, "Ozar Midrashim", was originally composed by Kurt Harland for the debut album of his band, Information Society. An acquaintance of Kurt played the song for the dev team at Crystal Dynamics, which prompted them to hire Kurt to be the lead composer of the project, and later the rest of the series.
• What Could Have Been: Besides the trip to the past at the end being Refitted for Sequel, Raziel was intended to battle and kill Turel, absorb Ariel's soul into the Reaver blade for a boost, kill Kain and add his soul to the Reaver, and finally use the Silenced Cathedral's Lost Superweapon to eradicate all vampires from Nosgoth. The future vision sequences from Moebius' lair were meant to foreshadow the original ending, and had to be recontextualized by later games.
