- Out of Order: The work takes a stab at bringing some consistency to a bunch of existing tales, but some events really aren't in order (it has been conjectured that the work was meant to be revised, but just as possible is that they are living legends and no reference is off the table). For instance, Tarquin's beef with Lancelot for killing his brother (Book VI) comes up a good while before we are told that story (Book VIII), and Kay is criticized for giving the mean nickname Beaumains (Book VII) like he did to La Cote Male Taile (Book IX).
