Trivia / La que se avecina

  • Adored by the Network: Indeed. The series has become so popular that it is on everyday, mornings, afternoons and some nights as well.
  • Creator Backlash:
    • Co-creator Laura Caballero admits that the show's first season was "awful".
    • According to actor Guillermo Ortega, his character, Joaquin, was removed from the series after the second season because the writers decided he wasn't working. If it weren't for that, Ortega would have continued in the series.
    • A few years after leaving the series, Eduardo Garcia (Fran) abandoned his acting career to become a musician, and released a song that harshly criticized members of the cast and crew of La que se Avecina and Aquí no hay quien viva, more specifically creator Alberto Caballero and actor Fernando Tejero. According to Garcia, he was forced to work longer than was legally permitted for a child, exceeding 24 hours.
    • Series creator Alberto Caballero admits he didn't do a good job writing the character Rebeca, played by Maria Adanez. According to Caballero, he was never able to give Rebeca an identity of her own, who was stuck throughout her presence in the series to Judith's storyline. Maria Adanez only stayed two seasons on the series, from 2014 to 2015, but she returned to the main cast nine years later, in Season 15.
    • In an interview made in 2022, Beatriz Carvajal (Gregoria) revealed that she left the series at the end of the fourth season because she did not get along with some people, making a point of emphasizing that her problem was not with the actors, and that she had no plans to return to the series. Co-creator Alberto Caballero retweeted the actress' interview commenting that Carvajal could never return as her character had died in the series.
    • Carlos Areces admitted that he wished the crossover episode between La que se avecina and El Pueblo had a scene showing Agustin and Juanjo getting to know each other (they are the characters Areces plays respectively in both series). Although Areces acknowledges that this was a consequence of the episode being set after the events of the second season of El pueblo (where most of Penafria's inhabitants leave the village), he still thinks it was a missed opportunity.
    • In an interview made in 2023, actress Isabel Ordaz (Araceli) made a comment that many interpreted as a criticism against this series. She highly praised Aqui no hay quien viva, the previous comedy series she made with the same cast and crew, commenting on the fact that the humor came from the development of situations. Then, Ordaz commented that this type of humor is over and that now the norm is that all dialogue in a series must be funny all the time. The shade is more evident because of the fact that Ordaz mentioned in the interview that she made "situation humor" for three years, which is equivalent to the three years she worked on Aqui no hay quien viva, whereas she worked on in seven seasons of La que se avecina.
  • Creator-Driven Successor: To Aquí no hay quien viva, which is quite evident from the fact that it has the same cast, the same creators and the same premise of a community of neighbors living in a building.
  • The Danza: Several characters share first name with the actors that play them:
    • The "cuquitos". Carlota and Fernando are played by real-life siblings Carlota and Fernando Boza, while their brother Rodrigo is played by Rodrigo Espinar.
    • Hairdresser Fabio Sabatani from the early episodes was portrayed by Fabio Arcidiácono.
  • Hide Your Pregnancy: Rather controversially, for the thirteenth season, writers chose to work around Miren Ibarguren's pregnancy by devising a storyline where her character, Yoli, had put on a lot of weight after quitting smoking, thus concealing Ibarguren's pregnancy by slapping a Fat Suit on her.
  • The Other Darrin:
    • Up to three different actors have played Transgender character Álvaro/Alba Recio: Eduardo Espinilla in season 1, Sergi Ruiz in seasons 2 and 3, and Víctor Palmero from season 8.
    • Due to Laura Gomez-Lacueva dying of cancer, Greta Garmendia is portrayed by Rocio Marin in season 14.
  • Production Posse: Most of from Aquí no hay quien viva's cast and crew is also involved here. The series has the same co-creators (Laura and Alberto Caballero) and of the 27 regular cast members of "Aquí no hay quien viva", only four have yet to appear in the series so far: Joseba Apaolaza (Armando), Daniel Guzmán (Roberto), Diego Martín (Carlos) and Santiago Ramos (Andrés). Even dozens of supporting actors or guests from "Aqui no hay quien viva" also appear in "La que se avecina".
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Originally, Cristina, the character played by Malena Alterio, would be a lesbian abandoned by her bride. In the final version, Cristina is straight, although the concept of the character being abandoned by her fiance in the first episode of the series remained.
    • Luis Merlo, who worked with the creators and most of the cast previously on the five seasons of "Aqui no hay quien viva", was offered a role in the first season but turned it down because he preferred to work on "El Internado". He finally joined the main cast of the series as Bruno from the ninth season onwards.
    • Word of God has it that, before settling for making him a ghost character (as the cast was already ridiculously crowded), creators considered Edu Soto for the role of the mysterious 'defaulter' neighbor in apartment 2-C. In season 12 he's no longer a ghost character, and is portrayed by Nicolás Romero.
    • Norma Ruiz was originally considered to play Judith. She ended up playing Barbara in seasons 9 and 10, with the part of Judith going to Cristina Castaño.
    • When the series moved to a new studio for season 13, it also meant that the characters would move to a new building, and the first idea was inspired in an Old Madrid corrala; however, it had to be discarded due to a number of issues.
  • You Look Familiar:
    • Ángel Jodrá played a veterinarian whom Amador was thinking of selling his kidney to. Two years later, Jodrá came back to play Amador's father — and the resemblance wasn't acknowledged.
    • Played with as part of the "Truman Show" Plot of the 100th episode. Chema Ruiz had played the community president of another building, and this character had been Killed Offscreen by way of lightning strike. Here, Ruiz turns up as a specialist sent by the insurance company and is promptly recognised by Enrique.
