Trivia / La-Mulana 2

  • Content Leak: After the sequel was released, dataminers uncovered a lot of data related to the Tower of Oannes, an upcoming Brutal Bonus Level that, according to NIGORO, is set to be even harder than the Hell Temple:
    • Its theme song, "Aqua Wish", can be found in the game's files. Curiously, the song was unused twice for the first game before being repurposed in the early builds of the sequel as the theme of Roots of Yggdrasil before being replaced by "In Yggdrasil" in the final game.
    • Another theme can also be found in the game's files, most likely belonging to the area's guardian.
    • There's also leftover data for the map of The Spring in the Sky, as well as an unused glossary NPC data for Mr. Fishman, the fish shopkeeper from the first game's remake. It is most likely that the Spring in the Sky will be used to access the tower.
    • The final piece of leftover data related to the area is for a "fishsuit" garb, implying that your reward for beating the area is a suit. Sounds familiar?
  • No Export for You: Not the game, but the crossover characters from other games for the console version. This is due to licensing issues between NIS America and other publishers, such as Team Cherry, Devolver Digital, Playism and D-Pad Studio.
  • Schedule Slip:
    • The game was intended to be released in 2015, but various factors delayed it 3 years.
    • A minor example, but in late 2020 the Tower of Oannes DLC was slated to be released in 2021. It never came out until January 2022.
  • Sequel Gap: 7 years after the japanese release of the remake on the Wii, 6 years after the PC port and the american release for the Wii, 3 years after La-Mulana EX on the Vita and 13 years after the release of the original game back in 2005.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • The game was originally going to use the same engine as the La-Mulana remake before the switch to Unity.
    • Console and handheld versions were planned in the Kickstarter campaign, but it never reached the stretch goals.
      • Averted: Switch, PS4, and Xbox One editions were announced at the end of August 2018.
    • One of the stretch goals of the game's Kickstarter was developing an updated version of the original 2005 La-Mulana, which didn't came to pass since it didn't reach said goal.
    • The Game Over screen was very different. Instead of being the same as the remake of the first game, the screen had a broken Mobile Super X3 showing where you died.
    • The Corridor of Blood was completely different from the final game. It also had a different theme.
    • A fifth unused Sigil (the "Rebirth" sigil) can be found inside the game's files. This also explains why the Sigil section of the inventory has one slot that's not used. It does eventually appear in the Tower of Oannes DLC.
