Trivia / Kofi Kingston

Go To

  • Breakup Breakout: The (relative) Jannetty to CM Punk's Michaels. Kofi has had an extremely successful career, but much like Christian and Edge, he's overshadowed by Punk, who is one of the greatest wrestlers of all time. That being said, he's by far the most successful out of all of Punk's former partners and stables, and even managed to accomplish something Punk never did in WWE — becoming a Grand Slam Champion.
  • Consolation World Record: Up until he won the WWE Championship in 2019, he had an odd version of this. You see that list under Tag Team on the main page? Well, Kofi's won championship titles with all of those pairings (for a total of 8 under his name) and actually holds the current mark for cumulative days spent as a tag team champion in WWE history. That's all of WWE history - including the old days where champions were known to hold their titles for several years at a time. Most superstars would probably like to have main event singles glory, but of October 2018, Kofi's approaching a combined total of three years with some form of tag gold around his waist. Between that, his reliability as a singles midcard face (for most of his pre-New Day career, he was either holding or fighting for a secondary title when he wasn't holding a tag belt), and being well-known as "that guy nobody can eliminate from battle royals on the first try", his career has been a master class for WWE hopefuls in carving an invaluable niche for yourself in a wrestling promotion when the headliner opportunities never arrive.
  • Creator Backlash: He doesn't look back fondly on his old Jamaican character, if a backstage interview is to be believed.
  • Fake Nationality: Was billed as being from Jamaica in NECW at a booker's suggestion. "Everyone knows reggae music and Bob Marley" being her reasoning. This kept up all the way until WWECW but it was eventually revealed on Raw he's from Ghana, West Africa. Justified when Triple H questioned him about his lost accent and he explained he was paying tribute to the Jamaican culture. The Usos mocked him for it during their feud with The New Day, saying that he was "Ja-fakin'".
  • Promoted Fanboy: Was in the audience for WrestleMania XIV, March, 29, 1998, almost a decade before he made his WWE debut.
