- Breakthrough Hit: The film made Michel Ocelot a household name in European animation.
- Celebrity Voice Actor: The Japanese dub is a very unusual case, since the voice actors, the dubbing studio and even the ADR director are celebrities by themselves: Kirikou is voiced by Ryunosuke Kamiki (aka Taki Tachibana and live-action Seta Soujiro), the dubbing studio is none other than Studio Ghibli and the ADR director was the late Isao Takahata (a huge admirer of Michel Ocelot), of Grave of the Fireflies fame.
- Late Export for You: The film was not released in the US until 2002 (four years after the original release in France) due to its National Geographic Nudity.
- No Dub for You: Neither of the 2 interquels have English dubs.
