Trivia / King's Quest I: Quest For The Crown

Go To

  • Breakthrough Hit: Although Sierra and Roberta Williams had already had success with computer games, this was the one that really made the company a household name.
  • Killer App: The game was one for the otherwise ill-fated IBM PCjr, having been commissioned by IBM as a showcase for the machine's graphics and sound capabilities. When it was ported over to other platforms, including the regular PC, it became a huge hit. The game helped sell a lot a Tandy 1000s, which combined the PCjr's graphics and sound with greater PC compatibility. King's Quest established the IBM Personal Computer as a viable gaming platform, as well as selling a lot of EGA boards.
  • What Could Have Been: Sierra was planning remakes of the other early installments in the franchise, but cancelled them after the negative reaction from the fanbase to the remake of the first game. That still didn't stop Sierra from creating remakes of first installments of their other series.
