Trivia / Killzone

  • Dueling Games: According to the wiki, "Killzone was originally slated as a Halo Killer by Sony. However, the developers have stated that they never intended it to be a Halo Killer, but merely as a good game. The moniker of Killzone being a Halo Killer was due to false marketing." However, by this point the games are marketed towards two different audiences making the statement "competing franchises" redundant.
  • Franchise Killer: The fourth main game Shadow Fall and the Spin-Off Mercenary are this, due to both games getting mixed receptions and selling lower than expected, with Sony barely mentioning the franchise afterward and developer Guerrilla Games stating that they grew bored of the franchise and have moved on to the Horizon Zero Dawn franchise. The closure of the franchise's official website is seen by many as the final nail in the coffin.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: Each game has only ever been playable on the console it was originally released on (with the exception of the original Killzone, which did receive an HD remaster to the PlayStation 3, and Killzone Liberation, remastered for PlayStation 4 and 5). As the PlayStation 3 has been discontinued since 2016, playing any of the original Killzone trilogy games is increasingly difficult. Also, Killzone 2 & 3 were developed very specifically for the PlayStation 3 hardware, as a result they are very difficult to emulate and thus PC emulation of them is much poorer than for most other PS3 games (though extremely powerful consumer CPUs from the early 2020's onward such as Intel i9s can just brute-force this, such a CPU by itself costs more than a Playstation 3 did).
