• What Could Have Been:
  • Being interested on MMA, Fujita requested to leave New Japan in 1999 with the intention of joining Fighting Network RINGS, with approval from Akira Maeda and New Japan higher ups, but Antonio Inoki convinced Fujita to stay by providing him his own training and sending him to PRIDE instead.
  • There were talks between PRIDE and Ultimate Fighting Championship at UFC 44 to set up a fight among Fujita and Wesley Correira at UFC 46, but PRIDE turned down the idea because Correira was not a big enough name.
