Trivia / Kayo Dot

Go To

  • Doing It for the Art: Their entire ethos, and the main reason they don't stick to a consistent sound.
  • Executive Meddling: The reason Toby Driver's In the L..L..Library Loft was released under his name rather as Kayo Dot; the label wanted it under the composer's name. It's also the reason Choirs of the Eye took so long to be released on vinyl: Tzadik doesn't do vinyl releases and, for a long time, wouldn't license its albums for release on other labels. Due to consistent fan demand for more than a decade, they ultimately relented and allowed the band to self-release a vinyl edition.
  • Why Fandom Can't Have Nice Things: A few years before #MeToo, Mia Matsumiya posted a catalogue of literally hundreds of harassing messages she'd gotten through social media through the years. No doubt these resulted in her presence on social media being vastly reduced from what it might otherwise have been. A large amount of Fridge Horror may also apply regarding the amount of harassment women in artistic ventures have to face, given that Kayo Dot isn't even particularly famous.
