• Playing Against Type: Hugh Jackman not only playing the romantic lead in a Romantic Comedy, but as a literal Prince Charming.
• Typecasting: Pretty much everyone played according to their then-current typecast:
  • Meg Ryan as yet another cynical, Broken Bird with big mouth that secretly yearns for big romantic love and just as romantic man.
  • Liev Schreiber as a dorky, ineffectual supporting character that's between a comic relief and a Cosmic Plaything.
  • Breckin Meyer as a carefree guy that would very much like to get a date, except he's too childish to attract women.
  • Even Hugh Jackman at that point in his career was flirting with the concept of being a cool, suave leading man in romantic comedies, having just finished working on Someone Like You - it was only the poor critical reception of those movies that convinced him to drop that venue.
