Trivia / Kakegurui

Go To

  • Acting for Two:
    • Miyuki Sawashiro and Michelle Ruff voiced both Kirari Momobami and Vice President/ Ririka Momobami.
    • The live-action version has Elaiza Ikeda portraying Kirari and Ririka as well.
  • Casting Gag:
  • Cash-Cow Franchise: For its publisher Gangan Joker. And how popular it is in Japan? Aside from the main series where as of this writing in December 2017 (the manga started in March 2014), it has 2 spin-offs featuring 2 side characters (Saotome & Ikishima, the former even achieved 5 volumes), a 4-koma spin-off, an anthology worked by 32 people, a mobile app game, an anime adaptation in Summer 2017 and a live TV adaptation in 2018.
  • Creator Backlash: Erika Harlacher, who voiced Yumeko in the Netflix dub, was understandably disappointed that she wasn't asked to reprise her role for Sentai Filmworks' home media release.
  • Dawson Casting: In the live-action, the only aversion is 18-year-old Minami Hamabe as Yumeko Jabami. Virtually every other main character is played by actors and actresses in their early 20's.
  • Dueling Dubs: The Kakegurui anime has two English dubs. In addition to the one made by VSI Los Angeles for Netflix's streaming release, there was a second made for Sentai Filmworks's home media release in 2021.
  • The Other Darrin: Sentai Filmworks' 2021 North American home media releases feature an all-new English cast. For example, Yumeko Jabami, voiced in the Netflix release by Erika Harlacher, is now voiced by Estelle Link.
  • Playing Against Type:
  • Playing with Character Type: Saori Hayami is usually cast as a polite and kind characters. Yumeko is very polite, but also happens to be a rather crazy gambler.
  • Queer Character, Queer Actor: Sayaka, who’s a lesbian is voiced by bisexual Erica Lindbeck in the Netflix dub. However, Lindbeck wouldn’t come out until 2020.
  • Real-Life Relative: In the 2021 English dub:
    • Olivia Swasey played the Momobami sisters while her father John Swasey directed and co-wrote the dub.
    • Genevieve Simmons and her younger sister Juliet respectively voice Yuriko and Inaho.
