Go To

  • Black Sheep Hit: After "Follow Your Arrow" being blacklisted at country radio for its progressive lyrics, the general public, especially the more tolerant pop and Adult Alternative listeners, caught wind of the controversy and embraced it wholeheartedly, launching her career as a pop star.
  • Creator Backlash: Kacey states that she doesn't like her first three self-published albums and considers them to be test runs when she was finding her sound.
  • Creator Couple: Has a composer credit on her husband Ruston Kelly's 2018 album "Dying Star" and also did some backup vocals on it.
  • Colbert Bump:
    • Kacey Musgraves, particularly her song "Follow Your Arrow," received a boost in popularity after she appeared at the 2014 Grammy Awards.
    • Golden Hour, especially its single "Rainbow", receive enormous boost after her appearance at the 2019 Grammy Awards.
  • Executive Meddling: "Butterflies" and "Space Cowboy" received no promotion for country radio despite Kacey's insistence. Probably because of her two lead singles from Pageant Material fail to gain any traction.
  • He Also Did: She also wrote Miranda Lambert's hit "Mama's Broken Heart" and several songs for the TV series Nashville.
  • Hitless Hit Album: Pageant Material got to #1 on Top Country Albums even though its lead single only got to #41.
  • One-Hit Wonder: "Merry Go Round" is her only radio hit; "Follow Your Arrow" was a popular download despite not even coming close to the top 40 of the country airplay charts. Eventually averted with her feature on "I Remember Everything" by Zach Bryan, which hit #1.
  • What Could Have Been: She offered "Follow Your Arrow" to Katy Perry - Katy liked the song but suggested Kacey should perform it herself.
