- All-Star Cast: The film's tagline stated "No greater cast!" for a reason: Charlton Heston, John Gielgud, Jason Robards, Richard Johnson, Robert Vaughn, Richard Chamberlain, Diana Rigg, Jill Bennett, Christopher Lee, André Morell and Michael Gough.
- Creator Backlash: Charlton Heston expressed much dissatisfaction with the film, which had been a passion project, claiming it had "a poor director, an unsuitable cameraman, and the wrong actor as Brutus". He called Jason Robards' performance "the worst performance by a really good actor".
- Dawson Casting:
- John Gielgud, age 66, as Julius Caesar, who was 55 when he was assassinated.
- Charlton Heston, age 47, as Mark Antony, age 39, nearly a decade older.
- Deleted Role: Peter Eyre is credited as playing Cinna the poet, but his role was cut from the film.
- Role Reprise: This was the second time Charlton Heston played Mark Antony after the 1950 film version of Julius Caesar. He would play him yet again two years later in a film adaptation of Antony and Cleopatra.
- What Could Have Been: Orson Welles was the first choice to portray Brutus.
