Trivia / Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

Go To

  • Accent Depundent: Joseph tells the Pharaoh "All these things you saw in your pyjamas"/Are a long-range forecast for your farmers" – a dead giveaway that the show is British in origin, which becomes a very Painful Rhyme in a rhotic accent.
    • About one third of the United States also pronounces the second vowel in "pajama" to rhyme with "farmer" (as opposed to rhyming with "jam") so it isn't that far off.
  • Acting for Two: In the film's Framing Device, all of the main cast members played the teachers at the fictional school.
  • Dawson Casting: By necessity. In Genesis, Benjamin was a baby and Joseph was 17 when the latter was sold into slavery, so a biblically accurate production would be a rather complex affair. The 1999 film version stands out in the case of Joseph, with 42-year-old Donny Osmond playing him from (according to Genesis) ages 17 through 39, and with most of his ten older brothers played by actors younger than he was.
  • Development Hell: An animated adaptation of the musical with Elton John, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice was announced in March 2017. No news has come of it since then. But recently, Wicked director Jon M. Chu has been taped to direct a separate film adaptation.
  • Dueling Works: The animated Joseph: King of Dreams musical came out in 2000. One year after the made for TV Joseph and The Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat movie.

    • SCP Foundation: SCP-2576, code name Joseph and the Technicolor Dream Goat, is an eldritch entity that accidentally became trapped in the form of a small, rainbow-colored goat after invading the dreams of a Pakistani goat herder named Joseph Abbasi.
  • Role Reprise: For the film, Donny Osmond reprised his role as Joseph from the 1992 Toronto revival and Robert Torti reprised his role as Pharaoh from the Los Angeles revival.
