  • Acting for Two:
    • Mary Kay Bergman and later Debi Derryberry voice Jay Jay, Herky, Savannah, and Revvin' Evan.
    • Gina Ribisi and later Sandy Fox voice Tracy, Snuffy, and Tuffy.
    • Chuck Morgan and later Michael Donovan voice Big Jake, Old Oscar, and the narrator.
  • Channel Hop: The series moved from TLC to PBS Kids for its third season, and even all the original episodes were re-aired there as well.
  • Character Outlives Actor: Mary Kay Bergman, Jay Jay's original voice actress, committed suicide in 1999. That's why Debi Derryberry (Clay from Playhouse Disney and Jimmy Neutron) and Donna Cherry played Jay Jay in the series proper.
  • Crossdressing Voices: Jay Jay, Snuffy, Herky and Revvin' Evan were all voiced by women. Jay Jay, Herky and Revvin' Evan were voiced by Mary Kay Bergman and Debi Derryberry. And Snuffy was voiced by Gina Ribisi.
  • Direct to Video: The original model episodes of this show were sold on videotapes that one had to place a phone call to order.
  • Distanced from Current Events: An episode that depicted a plane crash was cancelled after 9/11.
  • Follow the Leader: Jonathan Cermin states that creator David Mitchell made the series to capture the success of Thomas & Friends, also because his son was a fan of planes.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes:
    • As of now, the VHS and DVD releases can be found on various shopping sites such as Amazon and eBay, but the leaked online downloads are extremely hard to find.
    • Good luck finding the television broadcasts, as well as the pre-caps and "Favorite Songs" segments from the PBS Kids airings.
  • Non-Singing Voice: Big Jake's singing for his first two songs sounds nothing like his regular talking voice, suggesting it's another actor at work.
  • The Other Darrin: In UK broadcasts of the show, some cast members were changed:
    • The narrator is voiced by Michael Donovan in the US and Brian Cant in the UK.
    • Brenda Blue's US actress Eve Whittle is replaced by UK actress Vanessa Stacey.
  • Serendipity Writes the Plot: According to Jonathan Cermin who worked on the original model series, Jay Jay was actually going to be blue from the start, but they had to change it to maroon/brown as he was camouflaged against the blue screen. They would eventually get green screen after the first tape was made and wrote a story on how Jay Jay would get his blue color.
  • Unspecified Role Credit: The credits don't list who plays who.
