- Billing Displacement: Anna May Wong - who was experiencing the height of her popularity in the UK - is top-billed, even though Gerrit and Nettie would be more prominent in the story. She actually doesn't appear until half an hour into the film.

- No Export for You: The film wasn't seen in America until it aired on television at the end of the 1940s.
- Playing Against Type: Anna May Wong was typecast as the Dragon Lady in Hollywood or else the Beautiful Slave Girl. Taou Yuen is a highly intelligent Proper Lady who is also a Silk Hiding Steel. That being said, she does flirt with being a Dragon Lady in the film's climax.
- Uncredited Role: Mavis Claire is uncredited for playing Gerrit's niece Laurel.
