• Dawson Casting: Charlotte Gainsbourg was 25, seven years older than Jane, though her build and height work well.
• Fake Brit: William Hurt, the actor who played as Mr. Rochester is an American.
• Hostility on the Set: William Hurt, Charlotte Gainsbourg and Billie Whitelaw eventually revealed that William and Franco Zefirelli were very hostile to each other during filming, to the point where Charlotte served as a mediator to stop them from fighting. Hurt's relationship with the director ended up alright after the filming.
• Role Reprise: Edward de Souza reprised his role as Richard Mason from the 1973 television adaptation.
• Those Two Actors: Amanda Root and Samuel West both star in Persuasion (1995).
• What Could Have Been:
  • Jeremy Irons was considered to be chosen to play as Mr. Rochester. When the shooting of the film was delayed from spring to autumn in 1994 due to Zefirelli's secondment as a senator during that time, Irons gave up that part rather than cancelling the family vacation he had planned.
  • Franco Zeferelli had considered Elizabeth Hurley for the title role but the latter later declined.
  • It was revealed that Samantha Morton tried to audition in playing as Jane in this version but she was rejected. She later took that part in the next version.
