Trivia / Jake and Amir

Go To

  • Acting for Two:
  • The Cast Showoff: Amir Blumenfeld's ability to speak Hebrew was written into his character and is prominent in several episodes.
  • Channel Hop: Around 2021, all of the Jake and Amir videos available in the CollegeHumor YouTube channel were transferred to their eponymous channel, formely named IfIWereYou, based on their podcast of the same name.
  • The Danza: Jake Hurwitz and Amir Blumenfeld themselves as well as most of their supporting cast, with only occasional exceptions (mainly from Amir's Noodle Incident-filled life outside the office).
  • Enforced Method Acting: Per the outtakes for "Valentine's Day," Jake was on his fourth day without showering after flying in from LA, so Sarah's grossed-out reaction to his attempted Forceful Kiss wasn't totally fake.
  • Official Fan-Submitted Content: The episode "Crabs" was the winning entry in the "Write an Episode of Jake and Amir" contest and was written by two fans, Mike and Stefan.
  • Promoted Fanboy: As a teenager, Stony Blyden, later of Hunter Street, made Voice Clip Songs of Jake and Amir videos under the name SteffComedy, which were promoted by CollegeHumor and the actors themselves. CollegeHumor commissioned work from him and one of his songs, "The Milkman," was featured in the finale.
  • Real-Life Relative: Jake Hurwitz's mother and siblings have infrequently appeared as themselves. The exception is his (fictional) estranged older brother Kumail, played by actor Kumail Nanjiani.
  • Recycled Script:
    • The CollegeHumor Show, which featured both Hurwitz and Blumenfeld as writers, reshot "Lunch Meeting," "Desktop Prank" and "New Girlfriend" and incorporated a version of "Website Ideas" as a subplot in the series finale. The original versions of "Bless You" and "Six Flags" were used as Cold Opens with only minor edits.
    • "Lunch Meeting" and "Lunch" have Amir making the same bizarre, detailed lunch order.
  • The Red Stapler: There actually is a website called One Almond, which has Amir holding one walnut.
  • Romance on the Set: Emily Axford and Brian "Murph" Murphy, later of Adam Ruins Everything and Hot Date, were not romantically involved when their characters became a couple in the series, but began dating in real life and are married as of 2014.
  • Throw It In!:
    • The off-camera scream which Jake and Amir react to in "Church" was from "My Super Not Chill Ghost Roommate" being filmed nearby.
    • The relationship between Emily Axford and Brian Murphy's characters, and eventually their real-life counterparts, apparently began with an ad-lib in "Secret Santa Part 2," when Axford crowned the joke about her character receiving a (terrible) framed photo of Murph as a Christmas present with an adoring "—and he looks really good." Blumenfeld and Hurwitz found this funny enough to establish the characters as a couple in subsequent episodes.
    • Amir has had quite a few memorable improvs, including his repetition of "Double your bye-bye!" in "One Almond" (he was only supposed to say it once) and the line "Hoot! gives a shit?" in "Snakebite" (while commenting on his ten dead owls).
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Hurwitz and Blumenfeld had hoped to follow up the "Double Date" series, which ends with two engagements, with a similar multi-part Wedding Episode, but it never materialized.
    • In 2013 there was talk of a TV series adaptation for TBS, and the departure of the duo from CollegeHumor saw a fan campaign for TBS to greenlight the filming of the pilot which instead lead to a pilot order from TruTV, who ultimately passed on the series. The available evidence shows that it was going to be more of an ensemble sitcom centered at the Wacky Startup Workplace of a Shallow News Site Satire.
  • You Look Familiar: The many enigmatic appearances of Ben Schwartz as a series of Inexplicably Identical Individuals. Jake says the phrase in "Couples Therapist."
