  • Box Office Bomb: Budget, $20 million. Box office, $14,710,975. The first adaptation of any of Thomas Pynchon's works received generally positive reviews from critics, but divided reactions from audiences over its bizarre humor, leading many patrons to walk out.
  • Creator Backlash: Reese Witherspoon doesn’t think about this highly. Other than going to the premiere, she did no interviews nor any promotion on her social media like she does her other films. She even requested Paul Thomas Anderson to limit her role after he was considering expanding her screentime.
