  • In Name Only:
    • While both the book and the show start off with the premise of two girls who come to fat camp with very different goals, their messages are miles apart. In the book, April (analogous to Amber) is the main character, while Wil is her bunkmate/Frenemy who refuses to lose weight out of spite. Wil quickly change her tune when both girls fall in love with the same hot camper. The rest of the book is the girls' competition to lose the most weight over the summer and focuses exclusively on April and Wil, with little attention paid to the other campers, and Wil wins a prize for losing the most weight over the summer. The moral is that weight-loss is something you should do for yourself, not to impress a boy (along with a mild dose of sisters-before-misters), opposed to the show's more broad message of "worthy no matter what your size."
    • Related to the above, April became Amber for the series, while Camp Victory is called Wellness Canyon and is referred to as a "health spa" rather than a fat camp.
