• Fake Nationality: Taye Diggs, who played the Jamaican Winston Shakespeare, is from New Jersey.
• Star-Making Role: While Taye Diggs was already a successful Broadway actor, a lot of his mainstream success and recognition came from his role as Winston. He then had several more hits in the 90s and moving into the early 2000s as well.
• Write Who You Know: Terry McMillan's book which inspired the movie was itself based on her own marriage to Jonathan Plummer, a Jamaican man half her age. However, the couple ultimately divorced in 2005 after Plummer came out as gay, implying that he only married her for American citizenship to escape his notoriously homophobic homeland. A sequel novel covering these events has not yet been published.
